Our next planning meeting is scheduled for October 24, 2007 at 7:00 pm, click here for details
In order to keep this neighborhood viable and thriving we need the involvement and participation of our neighbors.
In the spring of 2002 we began an active partnership with the City of Concord and the Concord Police Department to develop a responsible neighborhood. It was organized to:
Improve and stabilize the character of the neighborhood.
Improve the condition of the housing in the neighborhood.
Improve the delivery of City services to the neighborhood.
Build a strong sense of community in the neighborhood.
The overwhelming neighborhood concern then was the incredible amount of speeding and shortcutting through our neighborhood. In response to that a Traffic Committee was developed to address those concerns. After many months of intense meetings with the city traffic officials a traffic-calming plan was developed and sent to the neighbors to approve. The end result is a much improved traffic situation.
Because of our partnership with the City we also enjoy 2 FREE Dumpster Days a year! As well, we retain the concerned eyes and ears of our public officials and police officers.
Other concerns continue to be the maintenance and safety of our canal trail, the and beautification of the Treat Boulevard side of our neighborhood. Also, many have expressed interest in reviving the Halloween festival and Christmas horse carriage rides for the children, and the many Block Parties that we have had so much success with in the past!
As of a couple of years ago we have had on and off participation in neighborhood meetings. It has actually dwindled down to just a few trying to keep our neighborhood together!
There are 570 residences in our neighborhood. There are about six trying to keep our neighborhood partnership alive! What is wrong with this picture? One’s civic duty begins right here in one’s neighborhood. We all have jobs and other responsibilities but we must be able to find at least some time to devote to the health and sustainability of our neighborhood! It’s up to you to participate in some small way. Really, it only involves so little of your time communally.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2007
Tuesday August 7, 2007 on Essex Court
It was a lovely summer evening and we had a great turnout for our annual ice cream social. We had a wonderful time meeting new neighbors and connecting again with many of our neighborhood residents. It was a time to renew ties and think about what a great neighborhood we have.
Also in attendance were several of our neighborhood police officers as well as our new Valley Commander,Tiffany Delatorre! It was fun getting to know them and sharing neighbohood concerns with them. They are very involved with the protection and safety of our neighborhood.
Photos of the evening are included on our website using the photos link in the menu. Special thanks to Patti Connett and Karen Washington for helping to make this a successful event! Mary Esther Loranger
Welcome to Canterbury Village
Canterbury Village was established in the 1950's and consists of almost 570 Cape Cod Style homes. The City of Concord initiated Canterbury Village into the Neighborhood Partnership Program in 1999. The Neighborhood Partnership Program aids groups of interested citizens to form self-sustaining neighborhood associations. The association works with City staff to assess the needs and assets of their neighborhood, and develop and implement action plans to address those concerns. The City of Concord recently offered "graduated status" to Canterbury Village. Graduated Partnerships are those that have reached a certain level of self-sufficiency. As part of that self-sufficiency, the neighborhood has established the Canterbury Village Neighborhood Association. The purpose is described below.
Purpose The Canterbury Village Neighborhood Association was created to:
Encourage and maintain a neighborhood of which we can be proud -Increase the feeling of security and concern among neighbors
Inform the City of Concord about our community/neighborhood needs and concerns
Act as a resource for the neighborhood by referring people to appropriate agencies, departments or individuals for information or services available
Provide a forum where matters of interest or concern can be discussed and acted upon
This website is part of Canterbury Village's new self-sufficient graduated status as well! We'd like it to be an efficient way to communicate with each other and make neighborhood resources readily available to everyone who lives here. Please offer website suggestions by emailing the webmaster at:
